Why Choose Me As A Coach?

If you are struggling with your mental health, there are a range of options to help. If you go down the NHS route, you might be stuck on a waiting list for many months. If you decide to go privately, you could opt for a wide range of counsellors, psychotherapists or psychologists, at varying price points (often quite expensive).
You might actually struggle from choice fatigue as there are so many options out there. You can read reviews and do your research, but how can you know what it will be like? Will you gel with the professional you’ve chosen? Will rapport be nurtured?
Do you find someone based on a Google search or turn to an organisation like Mind?
I am a coach. This means that I will collaborate with you to find practical, suitable suggestions to improve your overall wellbeing. I will listen with empathy and, drawing extensively on The SCALES Model, find solutions that work for you.
I have been through a great deal of therapy in my time, and have used countless practitioners. Some were fantastic and some, to be frank, were rather average. Effectiveness is what we seek and, while developing a relationship takes time, often it is instinct and gut feeling that allows us to connect and feel comfortable with someone.
I have spent eight years running a mental health charity, completed a Level 2 counselling course and have achieved the NHS standard as a coach.
If you seek out a counsellor or therapist, you are likely to be listened to and reflected back to, but the onus will be on you to find the solution within yourself to move forward. Coaching is different, as I will be equipping you with strategies and will do the hard work for you. Most importantly we will build a trusting relationship where you can feel comfortable sharing your struggles and experiences.
I am someone who has been through a lot with my mental health. I can’t promise that I will be the right match for you, but I do bring a lot of experience to the table. Also, I am going to come right out with it – I am male. This gives me a different perspective and men are in the minority when it comes to mental health professionals. It is important for everyone, regardless of gender or background, to feel comfortable in opening up.
So why not drop me a line and give it a go? We’ll start with a 15-minute discovery FaceTime where we establish our initial contact. From there I recommend 60-minute sessions and you can sign up for my proprietary 8-session SCALES programme. Let’s take the next step together on your journey.
